The Republic of Ecuador denounced the ICSID Convention in July 2009. Consequently, it denounced several Bilateral Investment Treaties during the decade of 2010. However, on 2021, Ecuador ratified the ICSID Convention once again. As can be seen, there are several edges to this story. The present work is intended to provide an overview of two issues related to Ecuador’s exit from ICSID system. First, what happened with ISDS regarding foreign investors in Ecuador. Second, the connection between foreign direct investment and the ICSID Convention in the same country. Finally, the text offers a perspective of what the ICSID system and ISDS will be like in the future in Ecuador.
